Visiting more village gardens

Another gorgeous but different garden - Lucian and Sabina have a hot house where they grow the most delicious veggies; a trout lake or two; Indian geese and a little Bambi they have rescued after an attack by wolves. They are looking after it for now and will be releasing it into the woods soon.

Visiting village gardens

I love visiting houses and gardens in the village. Tanti Oara does some sewing for us- no alteration is too difficult for her. Her garden is a piece of paradise

Făgăraș fortress

I have driven past the Făgăraș fortress for many years but never visited it- until today. It is stunning. The biggest and best preserved fortress in Transylvania- worth getting past the ugliness of the communist blocks. Once a city with a lovely old town, Făgăraș lost many of its old buildings during the communist years, as it was a stronghold of anti- communism resistance.

Arts Festival in Sibiu

Sibiu hosts an international performing arts festival every June - there is something for everyone in every street; venue and even in disused factories .

Visiting Sâmbăta de Jos

Visit to Sâmbăta de Jos stud farm. Beautiful Lipitan horses. They are all white but did you know that when they are born they are black and change their colour gradually within 3 years of birth?

Cultural Capital

Who would have known? In 2007 Sibiu was European International City of Culture. Since then the city has been flourishing - new restaurants, cafes and cool bars and beer terraces have popped including restaurants that now cater for vegetarians!
